Procedure for obtaining Director
Identification Number (DIN)

Every Director or a person intending to be a director of a Company has to apply for a Director Identification Number (DIN). The DIN application Form (DIR-3) is available on MyMCA portal. The form has to be filled online and submitted for DIN allocation. In the form all items marked with (*) are to be filled in compulsorily. After filling the form a button 'Check Form' should be pressed to verify the details filled in case certain details are to be modified then 'Modify' button is to be pressed and the modifications can be carried out. Later on after verifying that all the details filled are correct, press 'Submit' button.
The applicant shall scan and attach copies of the following namely:
- Photograph;
- Proof of identity;
- Proof of residence; and
- Verification by the applicant for applying for allotment of DIN in the format specified.
The form has to be signed with a Digital Signature Certificate. The form should also be attested by a Chartered Accountant or a Company Secretary or a Cost and Works Accountant in practice. It can also be digitally signed by a Company Secretary in full time employment of the company or by the Managing Director or Director of the company in which the applicant intends to be a director.
DIR-3 will also have to be digitally signed by the applicant by using his or her own Digital Signature Certificate.
The applicant shall submit the Form No. DIR-3 on the portal and pay the requisite amount of fees (₹ 500) through online mode.
After successful payment of fee, in case DIR-3 is signed by practising professional, the system after processing, shall automatically generate the approved DIN and in all other cases, the provisional DIN shall be generated by the system.
The attestation of the proof of identification and address can be done by Notary Gazetted Officer, certified professional viz., Chartered Accountant/Company Secretary/Cost Accountant with stamp and registration number. An overseas applicant will have to get the proofs Notarised / Apostiled in his country oc residence. The documents that are attested have to be of recent validity (2 months for Indian applicants and 3 months for foreign national). In case of foreign nationals, passport is mandatory as identity proof.
